Questions a First Timer May Ask When Receiving A Spray Tan

How does it work?  The tanning solution is air misted onto your body, the initial colour is from the bronzer will give you and instant tan and will wash off after your first shower leaving a sexy tan underneath.  The active ‘tanning’ ingredient is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), a sugar based derivative which reacts with the keratin proteins in the surface of the skin to produce a flawless tan which can take you up to 5 times darker than your normal colour.

How long will it last?  The tan will last anywhere between 7 to 10 days, I find I get one good week out of my tan & the second week I am starting to fade.  You need to note that the tan is reacting with the proteins in the outer most layer of the skin which is our dead layer so the tan doesn’t actually fade, it drops off with our skin. So we need to keep our skin well moisturized, use a soap free product such as  Vanity Body Shampoo ($17.95) and minimize your showers.  After washing pat yourself dry rather than rubbing as this would exfoliate the skin.  Avoid activities that naturally exfoliate the skin such as long baths or chlorine pools.

What do I wear?  Most people like to wear their own briefs, I do supply disposable g-strings, you can wear bras or bathers if you prefer.  After the tan you want to bring lose dark coloured clothes and a pair of thongs to leave in. The bronzer in the tan will get on your clothes however it does wash out in the wash.

How do I prepare?  It’s important for you to prepare your skin to lengthen the life of your tan.  Simply exfoliate and moisturizing your face and body the evening prior to your appointment.  Hair removal ideally, should be performed 24 hrs prior.  Try to wear no moisturiser or deodorant to the session as this could act as a barrier to the active ingredients.

How long before I can shower?  6-8 hours is recommended and avoid activities which will cause you to perspire excessively.

Will this tan protect me from the sun?  The answer is no, don’t be fooled, this is a fake tan and offers you no sun protection, you will still burn if exposed to too much sun.
